It's heartwarming to see such a collaborative effort to help a cat in need.
A kind member of the public reached out as they were very concerned about the state of a cat they had seen wandering the streets of a housing estate in Swindon. He seemed to be limping, he was covered in matted fur and looked to be in very poor condition.
This was a real team effort. Over several weeks our volunteers knocked on doors and found out as much information about the cat as they could. They put up posters and tried to find out where the cat visited over the day so they could try and get it to safety.
We got a lucky break!
It was then, by luck one of our volunteers saw him heading into somebodies porch.
It looks like he was scrounging food that a lady was putting out for her own cats and she sometimes would catch a glimpse of him as he dashed away. He was very nervous and flighty
With her help, we were able to catch the cat and bring him in for much needed veterinary treatment... and I think we got to him just in time! Poor Barry!

What a mess!
Barry needed to be completely shaved today as his fur was completely matted and full of faeces. He needed a dental as the few remaining teeth he had were rotting. He was covered in fleas and he had ear mites.
He only weighed 3.5kg so for an adult entire male that was extremely underweight. He also had an old injury to his back left leg, a problem caused from fighting due to him not being neutered. He was estimated to be between 8 and 10.
We once again have to thank our amazing team at Stroud Road Veterinary Surgery you guys are just so awesome!
This is a little facebook vid of Barry getting used to his foster home, you can see how underweight he is!
It turned out this was just the start of Barry's problems.
We had to make sure we kept him warm and helped him to recover physically. He was in a lovely foster home where he got all the hugs, strokes and fuss he could possibly want, but his health was still struggling and there were signs of blood in his urine. He really didn't deserve these complications, poor chap.
After three lots of antibiotics there were sill problems, so we made the decision to fundraise for Barry. On the advice of vets, he needed a scan and a culture of any infections in his bladder which would cost about £400.

Barry doesn't have kidney or bladder stones! - Horary for Barry!
The scan didn't show up any problems with his bladder or kidneys, but he is having a culture done to see if there is a stubborn infection in his bladder. He's still happy and loves his strokes. The vet thinks that long term wise Barry's condition can be managed with a suitable diet.
