We were contacted by a member of the public about Sylvester, a street cat that was in very poor condition.

They did the right thing.

The finders started by contacting friends and neighbours in the area to see if anyone knew anything about the cat. No owners were found and he had been seen over several weeks scavenging from bins a few streets away. They then posted on social media to try and find any owners of the cat. That's when CATS became aware of this cat's plight.

The cat was covered in oil, with matted fur, very thin and incredibly hungry.

With the help of the finders, one of our volunteers was able to trap him and bring him to safety.

Sylvester's road to recovery.

The vet's verdict was that he was not chipped or neutered, covered in oil, and very underweight. We were surprised to discover that he was only 3 or 4 years old and his teeth were very good. While he was at the vet's he was neutered and washed to remove all traces of the oil that was covering him.

In the early days, we were quite concerned about Sylvester as he spent his days sitting in his cat bed growling at everything. We felt that things weren't 'quite right'. He didn't seem to respond to people who were moving about near him or focus on things happening around him. We questioned if he had sight problems or brain damage from ingesting the oil covering him. We asked our vets for advice and they checked his vision and did blood tests.

Sylvester is now in foster

The results came back fine so we just decided he was just a rather special cat.. who would need the care to help him get used to pet life at his own pace. He's now in foster and loving cuddles and strokes making fantastic progress, in his own time! We are also addressing other health issues he has.

When he's ready we will add him to our adopt page so he can find a fantastic home that will suit him just perfectly.

This beautiful boy has now be rehomed.
